Abstract

Marchantia polymorpha is a type of liverwort that is often used by Indonesianpeople, especially the people of Maninjau, West Sumatra, as a source of traditional medicine in dealing with infections of the skin. This moss contains a simple terpenoid and phenolic composition (flavones and flavones glycosides) which are antimicrobial compositions. To get a portion of this amount, of course you need moss in large quantities, this is a requirement that must be met. To avoid this problem, endophytic bacteria that are refused to produce antibiotics are used. This research was conducted for 5 months in the Microbiology Laboratory, Biology Department, FMIPA, Andalas University. The method used in this study is an experimental method in the laboratory. The data obtained is presented descriptively in the form of images and tables. This research was conducted in several ways, namely taking samples, sterilizing tools and mediums, isolating bacteria, producing antibiotics, testing the inhibitory power of the S.aureus bacteria and characterizing bacteria. From the research that has been done obtained twelve different endophytic bacterial isolates. Six isolates succeeded in producing antibiotics and six other isolates did not produce antibiotics capable of producing S.aureus bacteria. The increase in isolates of S.aureus bacteria isolates had a better inhibitory power, seen from the diameter of the clear zone. Isolate code BEMP-03 and BEMP-04 has a clear zone diameter of 6.5 mm, BEMP-07 7,3 mm, BEMP-08 8,1 mm, BEMP-09 9,4 mm and BEMP-11 has a clear zone diameter of 9 mm, while isolates code BEMP-01, BEMP-02, BEMP-05, BEMP-06, BEMP-10 and BEMP-12 do not form clear zones. Of all endophytic bacteria that have been successfully isolated, code BEMP-09 is the best isolate to inhibit the growth of S. aureus pathogenic bacteria which causes honeypox.
