Abstract
This research descriptive qualitative research which aimed to analyze translation shifts of forms, meaning, classify and explain about factors that cause the shifts, and measure and def define the degree of acceptability of translated novel Harry Potter dan Relikui Kematian. This study discusses the shifting of passive clause translation from English (source language) to Bahasa Indonesia (target language). The source of data in this research was documents taken from novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and its translation Harry Potter dan Relikui Kematian. Data in this research were passive voice or passive clauses which had translation shifts of form and meaning obtained from the novel. The purposive sampling was used in this study. The sample criteria of the study were all passive clauses found in the novel and their translation shifts. The findings of this research showed that the translation shifts of form comprised structure shifts 67 data (60%), class shifts 37 data (33 %), and unit shifts 8 data (7%). Besides, it was also found that 192 data were classified as meaning shifts. It was divided into semantic shifts from passive to active clause 61 data (32%), semantic shifts from topic-comment to comment-topic 6 data (3%), lexical shifts of meaning 88 data (46%), grammatical shifts of meaning 37 data (19%). Moreover, the factors caused the shifts were also identified in this study, they were intra-linguistic and extra-linguistic. Key words: translation shifts, passive clauses, novel Harry Potter
