Abstract

Skin cancer is a disease caused by changes of a normal skin cells become malignant due to DNA damage. The amount of skin cancer patient in Indonesia is less than Australia, but Indonesia have the main risk factor of skin cancer, which is UV rays. Indonesia is a tropical country with high exposure to sunlight throughout the year. The purpose of this study is to determine the profile of skin cancer in Pathology Anatomy Dapertement of Medical Faculty in Andalas University on the period 1st January 2013 until 31st December 2014. A retrospective descriptive study had did by using secondary data from medical records of patients who had been diagnosed as skin cancer with a total sampling method. There were 49 people sample used in this study. The result showed that most common skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma. Skin cancer is more common in women than man. The most common age group diagnosed with skin cancer is 51-60 years. The location most found skin cancer is head and neck. Histopathological type of skin cancer most commonly found is a nodular variant on the basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma well differetiated and malignant melanoma Clark IV. In Indonesia, the society concern about skin cancer is still low, therefore we often find the skin cancer case with the advanced tissue desruction or even has been metastased.
