Abstract

Ethnobotany and Ethnoecology study of Mentawai Tribe Traditional Fields (Pumonean) in Siberut Island, Mentawai Islands, West Sumatera has been conducted in November 2017 until April 2018. This research was conducted by survey and vegetation analysis method to get the important value index of species on traditional fields. Plants are collected directly in the field and continued with identification at Herbarium Andalas University (ANDA), Padang. Data on the benefits of plant species and land use values were obtained by interviewing several key informants at the study sites. Data were analyzed by LUVI method and analysis of Important Species Value Indexes. The results of the study in the Ethnobotany Study section have shown that there were 64 species grouped in 27 different families. Euphorbiaceae is a family with the largest number of beneficial species found in the fields (6 species). The highest total species LUVI value is found in Metroxylon sagu (Sagu) and the LUVI value of the lowest species is owned by Syzygium aqueum. In the Etnoekologi Study, it is known that the landscape unit in Mentawai farming consists of 4 units, with the highest LUVI landscaping in the mixed garden (mone). Type of fields Mentawai community that developed now there are 2, namely the form of traditional fields system and the form of new fields system.
