Abstract

The usnic acid is one of the secondary metabolite compounds that can be found in lichen. This compound is known to have many activities as antimicrobial, antiviral, antipoliferation, antipyretic, analgesic and inflammatory. However, usnic acid have poor solubility in water, so its use is still limited. To improve its solubility, the usnic acid is modified is solid dispersion of PVP K-30 preparation to increase its solubility in water. This study aims to find out which of the best hydrogel formulas and how they affect the antibacterial activity test. The solid dispersion of the acid PVP K-30 was formed by using freeze drying method and formulated into a hydrogel preparation with 1% usnat acid concentration. In this research using 3 kinds of gelling agent that is HPMC, aqupec HV-505 HC and na alginate. To get the best formula, the optimization was formulation first. The hydrogel preparation was evaluated from organoleptis, homogenity, pH, washing power, sineresis test, drug contain test and stability test. Each preparation was evaluated for antibacterial activity to Propionibacterium acne. The positive control used is Clindamycin phosphate gel. Based on the results of the bacteria test showed that the hydrogel solid dispersion of the usnic acid PVP K-30 with basis aqupec HV-505 HC (F1b + dispersi padat) had the optimize formulation and greatest inhibitory diameter (32 mm) to P. acne. Keywords: asamm usnat, solid dispersion, antibacterial, hydrogel
