Abstract

This research aims to determine the germination and early growth of ten genotypes of sorghum in two concentrations of polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution and to determine sorghum genotype tolerant to drought stress. An experiment has been conducted at at the Laboratory of Seed Technology and glass house of Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University Padang from March to April 2015. A two-way factorial experiment in a completely randomised design with three replicates was used for the experiment. Data were analysed using the analysis of variance and mean comparisons of Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test at 5% level. When only PEG was found to be significant then mean comparisons was calculated according to t-Dunnet. Results demonstrated that sorghum genotypes No. 2 and No. 45 had best early growth and were tolerant to drought stress in 20% of PEG.
