Abstract
The use of conventional urea fertilizers has been inefficient due to the leaching and evaporation process. Therefore, the formulation of urea preparations is released slowly in vitro release test and effectiveness test in plants. The objective of this research is to produce urea microcapsule preparation with polystyrene polycaprolactone polymer, to know its in vitro release and its in planta effectiveness in plant test. The urea microcapsule formulation was carried out using solvent evaporation method with urea as the core and bioblend (PS-PCL) as coating. Evaluation of the resulting microcapsules includes evaluation of physical characteristics, in vitro release, and effect on the test plant. The microcapsule release test showed a slower release of the active ingredient than conventional urea release with a release efficiency of 49.4%. Statistically, the test of effectivity of microcapsule in plant showed that conventional urea fertilizer application compared with microcapsule urea give significant effect to test plant seen from all test parameters marked with value P <0,05. The microencapsulation method has been shown to help improve the efficiency of urea fertilization in plants compared with conventional urea by reducing the frequency of administration and reducing the negative impact of urea to the environment.
