Abstract

Currently, the use of antibiotics is very high because infectious diseases are still dominant. Senior High School student (SHS) is a group of adolescents who are growing up. At this age, a lot of high school students who do self-medication by buying antibiotics without any prescription. In developing countries including Indonesia, the purchase of antibiotic is done freely. This study aims to see the description and identify factors that affect the knowledge and attitude of high school students in the city of Padang about antibiotics. The research was conducted by Survey explanative method using a questionnaire consisting of three parts of Demographic Data of respondents, 10 questions to identify the respondents’ knowledge aspect and 10 questions for respondents’ attitude aspect. Respondents are high school students selected by Quota sampling method. Total respondents involved are as many as 472 students. Data were analyzed using bivariate analysis of chi-square and Anova. The results showed that 404 respondents (85.6%) had moderate knowledge, while 456 respondents (96.6%) had a positive attitude. Factors that affect the level of knowledge among others such as, majors and parents' income in one month, while factors that affect level of attitudes include gender and majors. There is no relationship between knowledge and attitude (P> 0.05). Keywords: Antibiotics, Knowledge, Attitude, High School Students, Padang
