Abstract
Kata Kunci: Hutan, Kelapa sawit, jarak, Laba-Laba, Argiope sp. DIVERSITY OF SPIDERS IN OIL PALM ECOSYSTEM BORDERING A FOREST ABSTRACT The Forest is a natural ecosystem and the largest source of biodiversity. conversion of forest into oil palm plantations will degrade the diversity of living creatures. Spiders are generalist predators and able to adapt anywhere. This study aims to determinethe effect of distance from the forest on the diversity of spiders in an oil palm plantation. A 1 km long transect from The edge of the forest was established. Sampling along this transect used pitfall traps, spraying, and hand collection. A total of 414 individual spiders consisting of 15 families and 68 species was collected. The highest number of species (26) was found at distances of 200 m and 300 m from the forest and the lowest number (13) at a distance of 1000 m from the forest. The highest number of individuals (58) was found at a distance of 0 m from the forest and the lowest number (21) at a distance of 1000 m from the forest. The highest diversity (3.11) was at a distance of 300 m from the forest and the lowest diversity (2.43) at a distance 1000 m from the forest. The highest Importance Value was for Argiope sp. with a value of 0.16. It is concluded that spider diversity is not influenced by distance from the forest but influenced by the condition of the plantation. Keywords: Forest, Oil palm, distance, spiders, Argiope sp.
