Abstract

Research on the assessment of cinnamon productivity based on land suitability in Upper DAS Mangau area was carried out. The objective of the study was to assess the productivity of cinnamon in Upper Mangau watershed of Kecamatan Malalak based on land suitability. The land suitability determination was done by quantitative method using Storie and Square Root formula. The method is a parametric approach to evaluate land characteristics performence by rating them with numerical numerals from 0 (minimum) to 100 (maximum). Soils were sampled with stratified random sampling based on the extent at land, one sample for every 250 ha, two samples for 250-500 ha and three samples for 500 ha. Four land suitability classes for cinnamon plant are found, which are classified as very suitable class (S1) cover an area of 369 ha, suitable (S2) cover an area of 326 ha, suitable (S3) with an area of 1,098 ha and not suitable (N) with an area of 514 ha. The highest productivity of land in Upper Mangu Watershed area is found in west Malalak with cinnamon bark production, that is 9.8 tons/ha with the land suitability class (S1) has the land index 77.91 and 9.4 tons/ha found in north Malalak the land suitability classified as S2 with a land index value of 67.72. while the S3 contained in each village in Malalak district.
