Abstract

THE ANALYSIS OF LEAD CONTENT IN REGISTERED AND UNREGISTERED LIPSTICK BY THE FOOD AND DRUG SUPERVISORY AGENCY THAT SOLD IN PADANG MARKET Lipstick is a lip cosmetic used by most women. Lipsticks used should be safe and do not contain harmful ingredients because they can be ingested with food or drink consumed. One of the harmful substances contained in lipsticks is heavy metal, such as lead. This study aims to determine the lead content analysis of registered and unregistered by BPOM that sold in Padang market. Measuring of lead content carried out at the Laboratory of Environmental Engineering, Andalas University from October 2017 - March 2018. This research was an analytical study with 20 registered pink lipsticks  and 13 unregistered pink lipstick in BPOM. This research used Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry instrument. Data were analyzed by independent sample T-Test. The results showed that all samples of 20 registered pink lipsticks and 13 unregistered pink lipsticks in BPOM (100%) contains lead but the level was still below the limit that set by BPOM 2011. The difference of lead content in registered lipsticks and unregistered with the lead content in the registered lipstick are found at 0.74 ppm - 2.33 ppm with 1.2555 ppm average content. And lead content of unregistered are found at 2.03 ppm - 3.28 ppm with 2.4300 ppm average content. It can be concluded that all positive samples contain lead but still meet the requirements that have been determined BPOM 2011. And there are differences in lead content on registered  lipsticks and unregistered ones in BPOM sold in Pasar Raya Padang. All samples are proven containing lead but still qualify that set by BPOM are <20 ppm. Keyword : Lipstick, lead, atomic absorption spectrophptometry
