Abstract

AFFECTED LEVEL OF Brontispa longissima (Gestro) (COLEOPTERA : CHRYSOMELIDAE) ON COCONUT PLANT (Cocos nucifera L.) BASED ON AGE GROUP AT TANAH DATAR REGENCY ABSTRACT The attack of Brontispa longissima has spread to coconut plants in some areas. The level of attack needs to be measured as a reference in the control strategy. Research has been conducted with the aim to study the extent of Brontispa longissima attack on coconut based on the age group and its relation to the amount of fruit in the coconut plantation in Tanah Datar regency. Purposive Random Sampling used in the study with sample plant criteria were unproductive plants (age range 1-5 years), productive plants (age range of 6-50 years) and old plants (age >50 years). Parameters observed included planting conditions, percentage of affected plants, percentage of leaves affected, and relationship between percentage of leaves affected and number of coconut fruit.The results showed no difference in rate of Brontispa longissima pest attack in all three age groups. The percentage of plants affected by Brontispa longissima in Tanah Datar regency on unproductive plants 48.92% , on productive plants 38.42% and the old plant is 46.28%, and the percentage of attacked leaves 18.57%, 8.45% and 18.42%. The correlation coefficient on the productive plants is -0.516 and in the old plant -0,530. The between the percentage of coconut midrib attacked and the number of coconuts fruits was moderate downhill (negative) relationship. Keywords: Brontispa longissima, Cocos nucifera L, Coconut Age.
