Abstract

Regular exercise can create an ideal body by reducing body fat. Based on the type of dominant energy used, exercise is divided into aerobic and anaerobic. Both are able to decrease body fat mass which can be measured by measuring the thickness of subcutaneous fat (skinfold). The aim of this study is to analyze the relation between aerobic and anaerobic exercise with skinfold thickness. This is an analytic cross-sectional research. Research was conducted on the West Sumatran athlete during Regional Sports Week 2015 at the H. Agus Salim Sports Arena from November 2015 to January 2016. Collected data is primary data from the results of skinfold test by using a skinfold caliper. Four parts of the body were measured and, those are triceps, biceps, subscapula, and suprailiaca. Data were analyzed using independent t test, aimed to see any significant difference between the mean of skinfold thickness on aerobic and anaerobic group. If p value ≤ α (α=0,1), then there is a significant relation between two variables. Research result was obtained on 81 samples, with mean skinfold thickness of the aerobic group is 27,64 mm while in anaerobic group is 32,97 mm. From the statistical analysis, it can be concluded that there is a relation between aerobic and anaerobic exercise with skinfold thickness. Keywords: Fat mass, skinfold, exercise, aerobic, anaerobic
