Abstract

ABSTRACT Malayan porcupine (Hystrix brachyura, Linnaeus 1758) is a nocturnal mammal that play important role in maintaining ecosystem which eat insect and be dispersal agent. However, the information time of activity pattern malayan porcupine still unknown. The aim of this study is to know the activity pattern of malayan porcupine. The method that used in this study was survey method with camera trap in nature preserve of Lembah Anai on September 2016-February 2017 and used some data from a few camera trap research in West Sumatera. The highest abundance malayan porcupine on Alan (2013) in nature preserve Lembah Anai 0.182 photo/trap-night with 44 malayan porcupine photos. The lowest abundance in nature preserve Lembah Anai (2017) 0.006 photo/trap-night. Malayan porcupine is nocturnal mammal which active from 05.00-04.00 pm (next day) with the top activity on 08.00-09.00 pm with most photos obtained in monitoring data of PT. TKA with 160 photos from 340 photos of malayan porcupine. So, more photos of malayan porcupine obtained at a camera trap location will increasing the abundance of malayan porcupine at that location.
