Abstract

The use of inorganic fertilizer continuously cause chemical, physical, and biological damages of soil. Inorganic fertilizer can be replaced by organic fertilizer as a source of nutrient. The aims of this study are (1) to observe the effect of fermented plant extract (FPE) of guava leaves on tomato growth, (2) to get the best of FPE composition and (3) to determine the effect of FPE on C, N, P, K nutrient of soil. The FPE of guava leaves was prepared through anaerobic fermentation process. FPE with a composition of 250 g guava leaves, 20 mL EM-4, 20 mL brown sugar solution and 980 mL water can increase the number of leaves and heigh of tomato stem significantly compared to other compositions. FPE can increase N, P, K nutrients and pH of soil. The percentages of uptake N, P and K nutrien treated soil with FPE are 5,257%, 24,449% and 26,316% respectively. While the uptake of N, P and K of treated soil with water are 1,218%, 10,487% and 9,302% respectively. Soil without tomato plants gives pH 5,75 for treated soil with FPE and 5,34 for treated soil with water. While soil with tomato plants gives pH 6,27 for treated with FPE and 6,00 for treated soil water. FPE increases the rate of decomposition of compound on soil by microorganism. Keywords: fermented plant extract , tomato growth, , uptake N, P, K, nutrient
