Abstract

STUDY OF INNOVATION DECISION PROCESS OF SIDE-GRAFTING TECHNIQUE TO CACAO (Theobroma cacao L.) IN KAMANG MAGEK SUBDISTRICT, AGAM REGENCY ABSTRACT The aims of this study are to describe the innovation decision process on side-grafting technique (TSS) for cacao and to identify factors that influence the innovation decision process in Kamang Magek Subdistrict, Agam Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive method. The sample for this study were selected purposively with the following criteria; the farmers who are still actively in cocoa farming. Meanwhile the data where gathered through interview, documentation, and observation. The result indicated that all farmers have undergone all process of the innovation decision process which include knowledge stage, persuation stage, decision stage and implementation stage. However at the confirmation stage, 70% of the farmers who implemented technology of TSS cacao partially have not been confirmed their decision to fully apply the innovation. Moreover the research finds that the factors influence the farmers in innovation decision process are characteristic of the farmers and their farming, as well as the innovation characteristic. Whereas communication channels and the type of innovation decision are undetermine the innovation decision process. Based on findings the related agencies should monitor and evaluate the innovation decision process undergone by the farmers, so that the technology of TSS cacao is could be applied by farmers in order to increase the cacao production.
