Abstract

A research on the effect of adding gypsum to be used as an additive in the manufacture of cement has been conducted to improve the cement products quality. The purpose of gypsum addition is to retarding the setting time of cement. The most important physical properties of cement are setting time and compressive strength of cement. Cement with good quality is one that has great compressive strength and long setting time in accordance with prescribed standards (SNI 15-2049-2004). There are three types of gypsum used in this study named natural gypsum, purified gypsum and granules gypsum. In this research, total chemistry analysis of gypsum compered to standard analysis of ASTM C 471M-01 (2012), analysis of compound cemen with gypsum used XRF, analysis of compressive strength used compressive strength tool, and analysis of setting time with automatic vicat. The result shown compotition of SO3 and P2O5 from three kind of gypsum with the highest compotition of P2O5 was gypsum purified. The setting time of gypsum purified was longer 171 minutes for initial setting time and 221 minutes for final setting time. However the compressive strength of cement with natural gypsum was higher then gypsum purified and gypsum granular at 3, 7 and 28 days with 218, 291 and 383 kg/cm2.
