Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF GIVING RED GUAVA JUICE TOWARD SPERMATOZOA QUALITY OF MALE ADULT MICE EXPOSED BY SMOKE By INDRIA ASRINDA One of causes that decrease the quality of spermatozoa is free radical (cigarette smoke). To solve this problem, the body needs antioxidant to neutralize free radical. Antioxidant compound can be gotten in red guava fruit.The purpose of this study is to prove whether red guava juice canprotect in decreasing the spermatozoa quality of male adult mice exposed by smoke. This research was an experimental researchtoward Mus musculus mice (n=25) which divided into 5 groups include negative (-)control which is given aquades during treatment and positive (+)control, P1, P2, dan P3 were exposed by smoke of 2 bars cigarette every days during 28 days, P1 were give 25%red guava juice 0,13ml/20gBW, P2 were given 50% red guava juice 0,13ml/20gBW and P3 were give 100% red guava juice 0,13ml/20gBW after was exposed by cigarette.On 29th day all mices were sacrificed and the quality of spermatozoa was examinated include motility, total amount and morphology The result of the experiment is the means of motility spermatozoa K(-)= 52,40±120,21; K(+)32,60±11,28; P1=46,80±7,25; P2=59,60±6,94; P3= 55,40±9,83. Means of morphology spermatozoa K(-)=60,60±10,33; K(+)= 45,20±8,46; P1=49,20±4,32; P2=60,20±5,97; P3=52,00±5,65. Means of total spermatozoa K(-)=1,29±0,23; K(+)=1,03±0,15; P1=0,95±0,08; P2=1,26±0,05; P3=1,14±0,15.Post-hoc LSD test showed that there was significant decrease of motility spermatozoa toward K(+) than K(-) (p<0,05), and there was significant increaseof motility spermatozoa on K(+) than treatment group (p<0,05).Post-hoc LSD test showed that there was significant decrease of morphology spermatozoa on K(+) than K(-) and there was significant increase of morphology spermatozoa on K(+) thanP2.Post-hoc LSD test showed that there was significant decrease of total spermatozoa on K(+) than K(-) and there was significant increased total spermatozoa of K(+) thanP2. The dose that can give the effect of theresult to increase the quality of spermatozoa (motility, morphology and total) is dose 50% 0,13ml/20gBW. The conclusion of this research is giving the red guava juice toward male adult mice exposed by smoke with dose 50% 0,13ml/20gBW/day in male adult mice wasbetter to prevent in decreasing the spermatozoa quality of male adult mice than other dose.
