Abstract

Latar belakang : Penilaian tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti secara subjektif didasarkan oleh persepsi. Indeks perawatan ortodonti dibuat untuk meminimalkan subjektivitas. Dental Aesthetic Index merupakan salah satu indeks yang memiliki fungsi untuk menilai kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti suatu individu. Tujuan: untuk mengetahui gambaran persepsi dan tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti serta hubungan persepsi dengan tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti berdasarkan Dental Aesthetic Index pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Andalas. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan desain cross sectional. Subjek penelitian adalah Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Andalas umur 18-21 tahun berjumlah 28 orang yang dipilih berdasarkan teknik Purposive Sampling. Kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti dinilai dengan pemeriksaan model studi menggunakan Dental Aesthetic Index dan persepsi kebutuhan dinilai menggunakan kuesioner yang telah dilakukan uji validitas (Pearson Product Moment). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Spearman Rank Correlation. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mahasiswa yang memiliki persepsi baik 20 orang (71,4%) dan persepsi tidak baik 8 orang (28,6%). Hasil untuk tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti didapatkan 16 orang (57,1%) tidak/sedikit membutuhkan perawatan, 7 orang (25%) perawatan elektif, 3 orang (10,7%) sangat membutuhkan perawatan dan 2 orang (7,1%) wajib mendapatkan perawatan. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan (p<0,05) antara persepsi dengan tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti berdasarkan Dental Aesthetic Index dengan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,446. Kesimpulan: Sebagian besar Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Andalas memiliki persepsi baik dan kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti dalam kategori tidak/ sedikit membutuhkan perawatan serta terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara persepsi dengan tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti berdasarakan Dental Aesthetic Index pada mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran gigi Universitas Andalas. Kata kunci : dental aesthetic index, persepsi, tingkat kebutuhan perawatan ortodonti. Background: Subjective assessment about the need of orthodontic treatment influenced by perception. Orthodontic index was made to minimize subjectivity. Dental Aesthetic Index was one of the indices which has the function to measure the need of orthodontic treatment of an individual. Objective : This study proposed to describe the perceptions, the need of orthodontic treatment and to determine the relationship between perception and need of orthodontic treatment based on Dental Aesthetic Index at the Faculty of Dentistry Andalas University. Methods: This study used cross sectional design. The subject of this research was students around 18-21 years old in in the Faculty of Dentistry Andalas University. The need of orthodontic treatment was measured by a Dental Aesthetic Index study model. The perception about the need was measured by a validated questionnaire (Pearson Product Moment). The spearman rank correlation was used to analyzed the data. Result: The result showed that at 20 (71,4%) had good perceptions, at 8 (28,6%) had bad perceptions. In addition the need of orthodontic treatment was 16 (57,1%) no/little need treatment, 7 (25%) elective treatment, 3 (10,7%) very need treatment, 2 (7,1%) must need treatment, and there was significant relationship (p<0,05) between perception and the need of orthodontic based on Dental Aesthetic Index, students of faculty of dentistry Andalas University with correlation significant was 0,446. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is most students in the faculty of dentistry have a good perception and have a categories no/little need treatment based on Dental Aesthetic Index and there is significant relationship between perception and the need of orthodontic based on Dental Aesthetic Index in the faculty of dentistry andalas university.
