Abstract

ANALYSIS FARMING OF SWEET CORN (ZEA MAYS SACCHARATA STURT) AT PADANG CITY Abstrack This research was conducted in November-December 2015. Aiming to identify the characteristics and reasons of farmers on farming of sweet corn in Padang, analyze revenues and profits farmers who grew sweet corn in Padang and analyze the role of government in sweet corn farm in Padang .Population of research are all farmers as much as 30 farmer used proportional stratified random sampling, the sampling of a random member of the population and stratified proportional, this technique is used when members of the population is not homogeneous with regard to the characteristics studied. The population in this study were all farmers in Padang. Criteria for farmers to be sampled in this study were: (1) farmers who grow sweet corn planting is mostly average fields and the fields (heterogeneous) (2) farmers who grow sweet corn in the last planting season is in August-November 2013 The results showed reason farmers choose to cultivate sweet corn sweet corn crop is due to rapidly produce, where 60-70 days after planting sweet corn plants already are harvested. Another reason farmers choose sweet corn is the absence of costs incurred at the time of harvest, and farmers pick sweet corn because the market for sweet corn crop is big enough, and sweet corn farming by farmers do not require substantial funds and maintenance intensive. Cultivation techniques performed in its entirety by farmers sampled in Padang is still not good and not optimal. This is evident from the processing of crude land, fertilizer which is not in accordance with the recommendation, and plant maintenance is lacking. These activities impact the quantity and quality of the sweet corn produced. This led to the production of sweet corn is not optimal. With cultivation by farmers sampled at an average land area of 0.45 hectares. Then we got the average acceptance farmers who sell corn sweet sample of Rp 8,809,774/farmer. The average income received by the sweet corn growers in Padang is Rp 6,814,627/ farmer. The average profits earned by sweet corn farmer is Rp 6,156,144/ farmer. From the above results it can be concluded that the sweet corn commercialize highly profitable. The advice given is to increase revenue and profits sweet corn growers, to give more attention back their farming activities ranging from planting until harvest time, so that the resulting yield better quality and more so that their income will increase. Availability markets to accommodate the sweet corn is also an important thing that needs to be provided given the sweet corn market for the city of Padang in the downtown area of tourism is felt still lacking. In terms of opportunities sweet corn as likely, this is because of Padang has tourism areas. The government is expected to make corn agribusiness sector as a high priority in agricultural development. This will have an impact on increasing the income of farmers in the farming of sweet corn, so hopefully people are able to do this optimally farming and integrated.
