Abstract

TEXT STRUCTURE AND SOCIAL PRACTICES IN A JOKOWI’S INTERNATIONAL SPEECH Haris Syukri (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Oktavianus, M.Hum.; Co-supervisor: Dr. Ike Revita, M.Hum.) ABSTRACT In this research, political discourse in Jokowi’s political speech in APEC forum at 11th November 2014 is discussed. The purpose of this research is to explain (1) the text structure of Jokowi’s speech in APEC forum at 11th November 2014 in Beijing and (2) the social practice manifested in Jokowi’s speech in APEC forum at 11th November 2014 in Beijing. This research is conducted descriptively. Observational method is applied in collecting the data. To analyze the data, the pragmatic and referential identity as well as distributional method is used. The result of the data analysis is presented in informal and formal methods. As the result of analysis data, from the text structure of the speech, explicit cohesion markers found to be used by the speaker are conjunction, reference, ellipsis, and lexical cohesion. The most used cohesive marker is conjunction which reflects the speech is mostly about pieces of additional information of ideas that Jokowi discussed. The speech is composed by claim of action, circumstance premises, goal premises, value premises, and means-goal. It reflects that the speech is composed by sounds premises and conclusion. There are five transitivity processes found in the speech which are material, mental, relational, verbal and existential processes. The most dominant process is desiderative mental process which reflects that the speech represents Jokowi’s desire. There are discursive potential personal and demonstrative pronouns used which are I, we, and this. Then, there are also discursive potential choice of words which are businessman and opportunity. These choices words used to manifest discourse. There are four modalities used in the speech which are would, can, already, and will. The most dominant modality used is will which represents promises Jokowi made to help investors to invest. Three politeness strategies are found in the speech are bald on record, positive politeness and negative politeness strategies. The most dominant is positive politeness strategy which reflects Jokowi’s intention to shorten the distance between him and the audience. Referring to the textual and discursive practice analysis it is found that the social practices manifested in the speech are sustaining power and commodification. STRUKTUR TEKS DAN PRAKTIK SOSIAL DALAM SEBUAH PIDATO INTERNASIONAL JOKOWI Haris Syukri (Pembimbing 1: Prof. Dr. Oktavianus, M.Hum. Pembimbing 2: Dr. Ike Revita, M.Hum.) ABSTRAK Dalam tesis ini dibahas wacana politik yang disampaikan oleh Jokowi dalam pidatonya di forum APEC pada 11 November 2014. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan (1) struktur teks dari pidato Jokowi di forum APEC pada 11 November 2014 di Beijing dan (2) praktik sosial yang termuat di dalam pidato Jokowi di forum APEC pada 11 November 2014 di Beijing. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan metode observasi. Dalam menganalisis data diterapkan metode padan pragmatik, padan referensial, dan distribusional. Hasil analisis data disajikan menggunakan metode formal dan informal. Sebagai hasil analisis data, dari struktur teks pidato ditemukan empat pemarkah kohesi yang digunakan oleh pembicara yaitu konjungsi, referensi, ellipsis, dan kohesi leksikal. Pemarkah kohesi yang paling dominan adalah konjungsi yang mencerminkan bahwa sebagian besar pidato Jokowi berisi tentang informasi tambahan dari ide yang dibahas oleh Jokowi. Pidato tersusun atas klaim aksi, premis keadaan, premis tujuan, premis nilai dan cara. Hal ini mencerminkan bahwa pidato tersusun atas premis dan kesimpulan yang masuk akal. Terdapat lima proses transitifitas dalam pidato yaitu proses material, mental, relasional, verbal, dan eksistensial. Prosess yang paling dominan adalah proses mental desiderasi yang mencerminkan bahwa pidato merupakan bentuk keinginan Jokowi. Terdapat kata ganti personal dan demonstratif yang berpotensi diskursif yaitu I, we, dan this. Lalu, terdapat juga pilihan kata berpotensi diskursif yaitu businessman dan opportunity. Pilihan kata ini digunakan untuk memunculkan wacana. Terdapat empat modalitas yang digunakan dalam pidato yaitu would, can, already dan will. Modalitas yang paling dominan adalah will yang mencerminkan janji-janji yang dibuat oleh Jokowi untuk membantu investor berinvestasi. Terdapat tiga strategi kesantunan dalam pidato yaitu bald on record, strategi kesantunan positif dan negatif. Strategi yang paling dominan digunakan adalah kesantunan positif yang mencerminkan usaha Jokowi untuk memperpendek jarak antara dirinya dengan penonton. Merujuk pada analisis teks dan praktik diskursif, ditemukan praktik sosial yang termuat dalam pidato yaitu usaha memperpanjang kekuasaan dan komodifikasi. Kata kunci: wacana politik, struktur teks, praktik sosial, pidato internasional.
