Abstract

CHARACTERISTICS AND ADSORPTION OF GLYPHOSATE WITH FORMULATION SUB-BITUMINUS AND YOUNG COCONUT WASTE BIOCHAR ON INCEPTISOL FOR PRODUCTION RED ONION (Allium ascolonicum L) Abstract Herbicides with the active ingredient glyphosate are one of the most common herbicides used by farmers in horticultural cultivation areas. Glyphosate can be toxic if its level in soil and plants exceeds the predetermined residual maximum limit (BMR). One of the innovations to reduce the toxicity and risk of glyphosate is by using ameliorant formulations of Sub-bituminous coal and LKM biochar as adsorbents on Inceptisol. This study aims to assess the characteristics and ability formulations of Sub-bituminous and LKM biochar to adsorp and reduce Glyphosate residues in red onion plants on Inseptisol. This research was conducted at the soil chemistry laboratory Departemen Soil Science and Land Resource and wire house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang and Laboratorium Life and Environmental Science Perfectural University of Hiroshima. The use method is complete randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed that the formulation of 100% LKM biochar showed the best results in pH H2O; 5.93 units. C-organic at 75% Sub-bituminous + 25% LKM biochar is 5.14% and CEC at 100% Sub-bituminous is 55.11 cmol.kg-1. Formulation 75% Sub-bituminous + 25% LKM biochar showed the best adsorption capacity of Glyphosate on Inceptisol which was 3.77 mg/g and then followed by formulation 50% Sub-bituminous + 50% LKM biochar with adsorption capacity of 3.6 mg/g. The adsorption isotherm is more inclined toward the Freundlich equation (multilayer and heterogeneous) with R2 close to 1. The chemical characteristics of Inceptisol with the addition of 100 ppm glyphosate showed the best results in the formulation of 100% LKM biochar with pH 5.8 units and basic cations (K-dd 1.29; Ca-dd 2.32 and Mg 3.82 cmol.kg-1). Formulation of 100% Sub-bituminous with P-available 14.83%, N-total 0.52% and CEC 51.03 cmol.kg-1 and formulation of 75% Sub-bituminous + 25% biochar LKM show the C-organic content 3.35%. According to adsorption capacity, the formulation 50% Sub-bituminous + 50% LKM biochar showed the highest residue in the soil, therefore it was more effective in reducing Glyphosate residues in the tuber of red onion plants.
