Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Dinamika Pemekaran Nagari di Kabupaten Solok Selatan: Studi Kasus Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan Tahun 2007-2021”. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the background of the establishment of Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan, the governance process of the nagari in Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan from 2007 to the development of Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan and its subsequent division into two new nagaris, namely Nagari Lubuk Gadang Barat Daya and Nagari Lubuk Gadang Barat, which have created dynamics in terms of governance, social, and economic aspects of the community. The scope of this thesis is limited to the period from 2007, as this was when Nagari Lubuk Gadang was established through the expansion process. The year 2021 is set as the final boundary because Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan continued to develop and was divided into two new nagaris based on the desires and demands of the community. This study employs a historical research method consisting of four stages: source collection (heuristic), source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The first stage, topic selection, involves searching for ideas based on emotional and intellectual proximity, which leads to the development of a research plan. The second stage, source collection (heuristic), involves searching for and collecting both written and oral data classified as primary and secondary sources. The third stage, source criticism, aims to critique and compare the data obtained through literature review and interviews. The fourth stage, interpretation, involves categorizing and analyzing the data in a more specific and validated manner. The fifth stage, historiography, entails rewriting the research findings in the form of a scholarly work (thesis). Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan is one of the nagaris located in Sangir Subdistrict, South Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, with 15 jorongs (villages). It was established as a result of the division from Nagari Lubuk Gadang in July 2007, driven by various demands and struggles of the community to become a definitive nagari with independent fund management. Due to the population growth and the increasing number of jorongs in Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan, the nagari was further divided into two new nagaris, Nagari Lubuk Gadang Barat Daya and Nagari Lubuk Gadang Barat, in the preparatory stage starting from 2017. The purpose of the nagari expansion in Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan is to ensure equal development and access to village funds as a definitive nagari for the prosperity of the community.
