Abstract

Species and Abundance of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) in Siamese Orange (Citrus nobilis Lour.) Plantations in Gunuang Omeh District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra ABSTRACT Fruit flies are pests that attack fruits and have the potential to cause losses both qualitatively and quantitatively. The objective of the study was to determine the type and abundance of fruit fly populations on Siamese oranges in Gunuang Omeh District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra. The research was conducted using a survey method and sampling was carried out by selection or purposive sampling. The research locations were Nagari Pandam Gadang, Nagari Talang Anau and Nagari Koto Tinggi. Observations made are the type of fruit flies, population, percentage of infected fruit and plant conditions. Found 2 types of fruit flies that attack siamese orange plants, namely Bactrocera dorsalis and Bactrocera carambolae. On the trap using methyl eugenol found 3 types of fruit fly species namely B. dorsalis, B. carambolae and B. umbrosa. The trapped fly population was 300 with 252 B. dorsalis, 47 B. carambolae and honly 1 B. umbrosa. In the maintenance of infested fruit, 372 fruit flies were found with 366 B. dorsalis and 6 B. carambolae. The highest average maintenance population of infested fruit was in Nagari Pandam Gadang as many as 65.25 tails / 50 citrus fruits and the highest average trapped fruit fly population was also in Nagari Pandam Gadang as many as 43.75 tails per trap / 2 days. The highest percentage of infested citrus fruit was in Nagari Pandam Gadang at 46.08%. Keywords: Citrus Plant, Fruit fly, Percentage of infected fruit, Population
