Abstract

The stand structure includes two types, namely the horizontal and vertical stand structures. The vertical stand structure studied in addition to the number of trees in various canopy layers. In comparison, the horizontal stand structure distributes trees in different diameter classes. This research aims to determine the horizontal and vertical structure of trees in Forest Conservation Area Prof. Sumitro Djojohadikusumo Solok Selatan. The research was carried out from November 2022 to January 2023. The method used was a square plot with sampling using a 50 x 20 m plot in selected areas using the square plot method, which was divided into 10 subplots with a size of 10 x 10 m each. The results showed that the composition of the tree with the dominant family was found in the Dipterocarpaceae family, and the co-dominant family was found in the Fagaceae family. The highest Importance Value Index (IVI) was found in Shorea leprosula and the lowest in Memecylon ruptile. The diversity index (H') of tree vegetation was 3,5 indicating high species diversity in this forest. Furthermore, the vertical structure of the trees has a height between 6,2 - 36,6 m which is dominated by trees with a height of 20 m and is dominated by the type of Shorea leprosula in each stratum.
