Abstract

Wheat in Indonesia is not as productive as in it place of origin, because of the difference between tropical and subtropical climates. The objectives of these experiments were to determine the best combination of temperature and long term storage on viability, vigor, flowering and yield of wheat variety IS-Jarissa. The research was conducted from January until August 2015 in the Laboratory of Seed Technology (seed storage, testing viability and vigor) and at the Pusat Alih Teknologi, Pengembangan Kawasan Pertanian, Andalas University (PAT PKP Unand) in the village of Batu Bagiriak, Alahan Panjang, Lembah Gumanti subdistrict, Solok regency, West Sumatera (1616m above sea level). A completely randomized design was used in triplicate. Seeds were stored at either 4oC or -15oC for one, two, three or four weeks. Significant differences identified using the F-test were then tested using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. With respect to flowering (97,33 days) and harvesting (167,33 days) the best combination was storage at 4oC for two weeks. With respect to weight of seed per clump (12,49 g), weight of seed per plot (1,12 kg) and weight per ha (1,80 ton) the best combination was storage at -15oC for four weeks. Whereas none of the combinations tested showed any significant effect on moisture content, viability, vigor or the number of productive heads.
