Abstract

This research was carried out from February until April 2016 in the Experimental Garden Agricultural Faculty, Andalas University, Padang. A randomized block design was used and nine genotypes were tested : P3, P7, P10, P11, P12, P17, P18, P23 and P25. Qualitative characters observed were based on the International Plant Genetic Research Institute description of melon whereas quantitative characters were based on the Pusat Kajian Kajian Hortikultura Tropika description (means, variant, and standard deviation were calculated). Five genotypes were found to bear fruit : P7 and P10 (small fruit), P12 (small–medium fruit), and P23 and P25 (medium fruit). The other four genotypes died before flowering possibly because the environment was unsuitable. Keywords: musk melon, padang city, qualitative character, quantitative character, environment factor
