Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Science and Technology Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University Padang, from September to November 2015. A completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replicates was used. Data were analyzed using the F test at the 5% significance level. Significant differences were analyzed using Duncan's New Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. Parameters measured were; percentage germination (to test viability) and the time required for more than 50% germination, germination index and the number of shoots that emerged from the soil (to test vigor). With respect to viability the best concentration of KNO3 was 0.5 % whereas none of the concentrations of KNO3 tested showed any affect on vigor.
