Abstract
Lightning is an electrostatic discharge event in significant large amounts and usually occur during the rainy day. If the potential difference between cloud and earth are sufficiently large, there will be a disposal of negative charge from the cloud to the earth or the other way around to reach the equilibrium. This is the process that causes a clearly visibe flash, commonly called as lightning. This final task use data from the detection of lightning wave electric field in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Andalas. Data processing was done by identifying the visual data lightning that detected by electric field sensors. The identification is based on parameters such as polarity, zero/non-zerocrossing, number of return strokes, and the incidence of preliminary breakdown. Based on identification, the statistics of lightning occurence obtained from October to December 2013. Keyword : Lightning , cloud to ground positve, cloud to ground negative, zero/non- zero crosssing, return stroke, preliminarybreakdown.
