Abstract

Adam befimiroza. 2015. The Difference of Serum Zinc Level in Severe Preeclampsia and Normal Pregnancy . Thesis. Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Faculty of Medicine Andalas University / Dr. M.Djamil Padang General Hospital Background : Preeclampsia is major complication in pregnancy of which incidence increasing currently and associated with maternal morbidity and mortality. One of the theory of the preeclampsia is the oxidative stress due to an imbalalance of pro oxidant and anti oxidant resulting one of those free radicals, oxygen reactive, or nitrogen reactive cells. Oxidative stress activates maternal endothelial cells increasing the tropoblast apoptosis which believed as the trigger of vasoconstriction and procoagulation in preeclampsia. Micronutrient such vitamins and minerals are important to maternal and fetal health. Trace elements such zinc, magnesium, and copper are needed in pregnancy. Zinc is the cofactor of anti oxidant enzyme of which deficiency resulting higher risk of preeclampsia. Method : A comparative cross sectional study was conducted at M Djamil Central, Solok District Hospital, Painan District Hospital,Batusangkar District Hospital, and Biomedic Laboratory on September 2014 to February 2015. A total of 40 samples are divided into two groups, severe preeclampsia and normal pregnancy. a zinc serum analysis was conducted. The means of zinc serum level were compared and analyzed by unpaired t-test and chi squareof SPSS 18,0 for windows. Results : A significant difference (p<0,05) of mean zinc serum level in severe preeclampsia and normal pregnancy was revealed as 0,45 ± 0,09 μg/ml to 0,78 ± 0,55 μg/ml with p = 0,02 as well as previous study in Niger at 2010 that the zinc serum level in preeclampsia women are lower than those in normal pregnancy in comparison of 8,6 + 1,4 μmol/L to 9,4 + 0,8 μmol/L which is statistically different with p values < 0,005. (Akinloye et al, 2010) Conclusion: The zinc serum level of severe preeclampsia and normal precnancy are statistically different. Keyword: Severe preeclampsia, normal pregnancy, zinc serum level.
