Abstract

This research was aimed to assess the nutrient status of phosphorus and silica after 100 years of rice-duck systems on each terrace in Sawah Suduik, Nagari Salayo, Solok district from August 2014 until March 2015. Soil sampling on rice-duck system was based on the position of the terrace, from the terrace A (top terrace), B, C, D, and E (bottom terrace). As a control, soil samples were taken at rice field terrace without ducks at a depth of 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm. The results showed that paddy soil had pH value from slightly acid to neutral criteria. C-organic of paddy soil without ducks ranged from 0.53% (equivalent to 4.59 ton/ha) to 1.13% (equivalent to 8.50 ton/ha) and C-organic rice-duck systems ranged from 2.11% (equivalent to 18.37 ton/ha) to 4.20% (equivalent to 32.76 ton/ha). Rice-duck system also affected the availability of nutrients in paddy soil. Availability of phosphorus nutrient in the soil rice-duck systems on 0-10 cm soil depth was 5.66 ppm (equivalent to 4.15 kg/ha) to 19.41 ppm (equivalent to 20.19 kg/ha), and on 10-20 cm soil depth was 5.90 ppm (equivalent to 4.76 kg/ha) to 12.96 ppm (equivalent to 11.54 kg/ ha). However, the phosphorus availability of paddy soil without ducks on 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil depths was 4.99 ppm (equivalent to 3.74 kg/ha) to 9.41 ppm (equivalent to 8.09 kg/ha). The silica availability in rice-duck system also fluctuated on 0-10 cm soil depth, it ranged from 7.61 ppm (equivalent to 626.58 kg/ha) to 40.18 ppm (equivalent to 1807 kg/ha) and on 10-20 cm soil depth ranged from 7.96 ppm (equivalent of 756.50 kg/ha) to 27.08 ppm (equivalent to 1619.75 kg/ha). On the other hand, the availability of silica in paddy soil without ducks (on 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil depths) ranged between 25.64 ppm (equivalent to 1462 kg/ha) and 57.23 ppm (equivalent to 2250 kg/ha). Rice farming system integrated with ducks had positive effect on the availability of phosphorus (but not for silica) for a long time, and also affected the productivity of rice plants. Key words : field, rice-duck system, phosphorus, silica, Solok
