Abstract
ABSTRACT Dysphemism is a language that is used to coarsen the meaning. The language appears as the way to deliver idea, concept, intention, phenomenon, and information to the society. This research aims at explaining the use of dysphemism by haters in instagram of Mulan Jameela in terms of forms, meanings, and functions. Type of this research was descriptive. The data are the utterance of haters taken from the instagram of Mulan Jameela on November 2015 until February 2016. The data were collected by using observational method through note-taking and non-participatory observational technique. The data were analyzed by using distributional and identity method (pragmatic, referential, and translational). The result is presented by formal and informal method. Having analyzed data, it is found that there are three forms of dysphemism. They are: form, phrase, proverb, and clause, such as proverb and acronym. The dominant form is phrase in which it is regarded more effective in conveying something. The meanings of dysphemism are ghost, café, prostitute, ungrateful person, , worn cloth, siren, undead, face surgery, rodents, adult movie, greedy, skinny, maid, take, traitor, silicon, wrinkles, food cover, under wear, flat nose, injection of vitamin c, hair extension, flat breasts, innocence, snack, hatred, stress, immorality, and hypocrite. There are six functions of dysphemism. They are insulting, disagreement, giving negative image, expressing the furious, strengthening the meaning, and verbal abuse. The function of dysphemism in instagram of Mulan Jameela was dominantly used to show insulting which reflects the dislikeness and hatred toward Mulan. Keywords: dysphemism, hater, instagram
