FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH ANDALAS UNIVERSITY Undergraduate Thesis, July 2016 ALFAIZAH IMANINA YUNAS, No.BP.1210332013 THE RELATION OF WORK ATTITUDE, WORKLOAD, AND THE USE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT WITH WORK ACCIDENT ON WELDING WORKERS IN PADANG CITY IN 2016 x + 81 pages, 22 tables, 11 pictures, 9 appendices ABSTRAK Objective Welding company has potential of work accident happen. Based on ILO data 270 millions workers have work accident and 160 millions workers get disease caused by the work every year. Based on prior survey held at 5 welding workshop in Padang City in March 2016, 8 of 10 workers ever got work accident, most of the workers had non ergonomic work attitude, had heavy workload, and did not use personal protective equipment while working. This research is aimed at knowing the relation of work attitude, workload, and the use of personal protective equipment with work accident on welding workers in Padang City in 2016. Method This research uses design of cross sectional study was conducted in welding workshop from March to June 2016. The population of this research are welding workshop workers with the number of sample 60 persons. The data is processed by SPSS and analysis with Chi-square and the rate of accurancy 95% (α=0,05). Result The result of this research indicates that 53,3% workers ever have work accident, 51,7% workers have non ergonomic work attitude, 55% workers have heavy workload, 56,7% workers did not use personal protective equipment while working. There is significant relationship between work attitude (p-value=0,002), workload (p-value=0,000), and the use of personal protective equipment (p-value=0,001) with work accident. Conclusion There is relation between work attitude, workload, and the use of personal protective equipment with work accident on welding workers in Padang City in 2016. It is suggested to welding workshop owners to design proper work station, to have strict work schedule, and to supervise the use of personal protective equipment by workers.
