Abstract

Tujan penelitian ini adalah: (1) Mendeskripsikan peran penyuluh pertanian dalam pengembangan kelompok tani di Nagari Sungai Pua, Kecamatan Sungai Pua, Kabupaten Agam dan (2) Mengetahui kendala yang dihadapi oleh penyuluh dalam kegiatan penyuluhan pada kelompok tani di Nagari Sungai Pua, Kecamatan Sungai Pua, Kabupaten Agam. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei, menggunakan responden yang dipilih dengan menggunakan metode sampling bertahap (multistage sampling) dengan memilih 5 dari 25 kelompok tani dan memilih 30 responden dari kelompok tani terpilih, yang dilakukan secara sengaja (purposive). Data di analisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa peran penyuluh sebagai penyuluh motivator, edukator, organisator, dan komunikator dikategorikan berperan, sedangkan peran penyuluh sebagai katalisator dan konsultan dikategorikan tidak berperan. Kendala-kendala yang dihadapi oleh penyuluh dalam pengembangan kelompok tani adalah mengatur jadwal pertemuan dengan 25 kelompok tani karena penyuluh hanya berjumlah satu orang, daerah yang luas yang mengakibatkan penyuluh banyak menghabiskan waktu diperjalanan, tidak semua solusi dan saran dari penyuluh dapat diterima kelompok tani karena petani belum terbiasa menggunakan teknologi baru, dan kelompok tani masih belum berkembang karena masih bergantung kepada penyuluh. Dari hasil ini disarankan agar penyuluh diharapkan lebih meningkatkan kontribusinya dengan membantu petani dalam memecahkan masalah, membantu proses dilapangan dan menghubungkan petani dengan sumber teknologi. Kata Kunci : Peran Penyuluh, Kelompok Tani ABSTRACT The purpose of this research were: (1) to describe the role of agricultural extension worker in developing the farmer groups in Sungai Pua, Agam and (2) to identify challenges faced by the extension worker in developing farmers group in Sungai Pua, Agam. This research employed a multistage sampling technique to select 5 from 25 farmer groups and to select 30 respondents from selected farmers group, the selection of respondents was done purposively. The results showed that the extension worker play role in: motivating, educating, organizing and communicating within farmer group, meanwhile she/he has play less role as catalyst and consultant for farmer group. The challenges faced by extension worker in developing farmer group among other were; small ratio between number or worker and number of farmer group where one extension worker work for 25 farmer groups, coverage area which is very large and spread widely resulting in most of the time spent just to get into the location, and not all solutions and suggestions from the counselor is acceptable by the farmer groups because they're not accustomed to use new technology. As a consequences, the farmer group remains underdeveloped as indicated by high dependence on the extension worker. The study suggested that extension worker are expected to further increase its contribution by helping farmers in solving problems, assisting on the field and connecting them with technology updates.
