Abstract

Head trauma is an impairment in the function and structure of the brain due to an external mechanical force. Head trauma is heavily linked to the disruption of the brain. CT scan has been the golden standard in examining cases of head trauma. Lesions and bleeding in the brain parenchyma need to be observed and are correlated to the intervention and prognosis. Trauma that occurs to the head can also lead to maxillofacial fractures and calvarial fractures. This study aimed to observe the CT scan images from head trauma patients in Dr. M. Djamil Padang General Hospital in 2021. This study was a retrospective descriptive study. Data gathering was done in Dr. M. Djamil Padang General Hospital's radiology department from 8 December to 22 December 2022. The data was taken from the period for January to December 2021. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The data was shown in a form of frequency distribution. The study resulted in 357 samples of CT Scan images that were diagnosed with head trauma. 72,5% samples were male and 27,5% samples were female. The most common age group of head trauma was 19-59 years old (51,9%). The most common intracranial lesion was multiple lesions (23,5%). The maxillofacial fracture was found in 63 patients. The mandibular fracture was the most common type of fracture with 26 cases (7,2%). The calvarial fracture was found in 190 cases out of 357 patients with 52 cases (14,65%) frontal bone fractures.
