Abstract

Proper disaster management is needed before a disaster, during or after a disaster occurs. All parties, including community leaders, play a role in supporting the government's efforts in disaster management. Community leaders have a role as leaders who influence and motivate the community to be ready and prepared for disasters. The purpose of this study was to describe the role of community leaders in disaster preparedness in Pasie Nan Tigo Village. The study design used was case study research. This study involved 5 (five) participants that selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using in depth interview and analyzed using thematic analysis. There were four themes emerged from the study: 1) Intermediaries between the community and parties related to disaster 2) Providers of existing needs in the community 3) Role models in the community 4) Experience in disaster preparedness. It is hoped that with this research, community leaders can cooperate with related parties such as PMI in providing education related to basic handling that can be done when a disaster occurs.
