Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the phenomenon of income smoothing that occurs in Indonesia, which is seen from the ratio of the cost of debt, profitability, and financial leverage is garbling or signaling. Research object is a manufacturing company that issued bonds listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) 2009-2013. Company sample of 14 companies were selected based on purposive sampling method. Processing data using linear regression analysis using SPSS 16 (Statistical Program for Social Science) and using statistics Tucker and Zarowin. The results showed that most of the manufacturing companies in Indonesia high income smoothing successively from year to year during 2009 to 2013, and others just do a low level of income smoothing. In each based on the comparison of the level of income smoothing with the level of debt costs, the level of income smoothing with the level of profitability, and the level of income smoothing with the level of financial leverage most of the manufacturing companies in Indonesia income smoothing practices that are signaling. This means that although investors and creditors know of any income smoothing that occurs in the financial statements, they still believe that income smoothing as a positive signal on management's expectations for future growth of the company in good.
