Abstract

This study discusses the linguistic landscape found in short notice at 3 universities in Padang. The purpose of this research is to find the language format used in providing information and the language choices in each university in providing short notices. Sources of data in this study were obtained through taking short notice pictures at Andalas University, Padang State University, and Imam Bonjol State Islamic University. The results showed that there were 4 language formats, namely words, phrases, clauses, and sentences found in 46 short notices. The percentage of word format usage is 5% at Andalas University (UA), Padang State University (UNP) is 42%, and Imam Bonjol State Islamic University (UIIN IB) is 83%. The percentage value of UA phrase format is 39%, UNP is 39% 50% and UIN IB at 17%. The format of the UA clause is 28%, UNP is 4%, and UIN IB is 0%. The sentence format is UA with 28%, UNP with 4%, and UIN IB with 0%. There are 2 language choices found at three universities in the city of Padang, including the selection of English and the selection of English-Indonesian. Short notices that only use English (UA:UNP:UIN IB) 78% : 27% : 50% and use English-Indonesian with 22% : 73% : 50% (UUNP:UIN IB).
