Abstract

An experiment on “The Effect of the Storage Period and Temperature on the Germination of Gambir (Uncaria Gambir ( Hunter ) Roxb . ) Seed ", has been conducted from December 2013 to August 2014 at the Seed Technology Laboratory, Laboratory of Biotechnology and Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University Padang with 336 meter altitude. The experiment was aimed at determining the best combination of storage period and temperature for gambir seed. A two way factorial design was used in a completely randomized block design with three replicates. The first factor was the duration of seed storage i.e 4, 90, and 180 days at the following temperatures: 16ºC≤18ºC, 15ºC, 0 ° C, 15ºC, and -20ºC. Data were analysed with ANOVA and mean comparison of Duncan's New Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. Results showed that the combination of storage period and temperature did not affect the germination of gambir seeds. Similarly, single effect of each factor did not affect the germination.
