Abstract
Hypertension is still a major health problem in the world and in Indonesia. Hypertension prevalence is expected to increase to 1.6 billion by the year 2025. Hypertension is a multifactorial disease resulting from the interaction of risk factors, including nutritional status. Nutritional status especially overweight/ obesity is related with hypertension, but it is still possible for normal weight and underweight to suffer from hypertension. This study aims to determine the relationship of nutritional status to the incidence of hypertension in health centers Rasimah Ahmad Bukittinggi, on 19-26 September 2014. The kind of this research is correlation with approach of cross-sectional study. The total samples 79 people, taken by accidental sampling. Data collection was done by measuring blood pressure, weight, and height. Then the data was processed and analyzed by computerization. Results of univariate analysis showed the respondents who had a underweight nutritional status were 7.6%, normal were 51.9%, and overweight/ obesity were 40.5%. While respondents who had hypertension were 48.1% and no hypertension were 51.9%. Bivariate analysis, used Lambda test a significant association between nutritional status with the incidence of hypertension (p = 0.029) with the strength of a weak correlation (r = 0.316). The role of nutrition corner should be improved in giving counseling about diet to hypertension patients. Keywords : nutritional status, hypertension, body mass index Bibliography : 63 (2001-2014)
