Abstract

Red onions farming in Surantih Village, Sutera District, is a new farm, so there is no previous research on the marketing system of red onion in the research area. This study aims to (1) describe the marketing patterns of red onions and (2) analyze margins, marketing efficiency, and farmers’ share of red onions. The research used a survey method to collect the data. Later on, the data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The research found three red onion marketing patterns: marketing pattern 1: Farmers – Retailers in Pasar Surantih – end consumers; marketing pattern 2: Farmers – Retailers in Pasar Kuok Batang Kapas – end consumers; marketing pattern 3: Farmers – Retailers in Pasar Baru Kambang – end consumers. Marketing pattern III has the smallest marketing margin (Rp. 6.153,33/kg) and the most significant farmer’s share (82,10%), which means the farmers in marketing pattern 3 get the highest share of the price paid by end consumers. It also can say that marketing pattern 3 is the most efficient marketing channel, with the value of marketing efficiency of 11,02%, which means that each 1 Kg of marketed red onions will cost 11,02% of the product value.
