Abstract
A fracture means a discontinuity of a bone. Fractures in the lower extremities due to accidents have the highest prevalence among other fractures. Femoral fracture takes 43% cases in all lower extremity fractures due to accidents. Among several types of femoral fractures, femoral shaft fracture is the most common, which generally occur due to high-energy accidents so that they often have various types of ascociated injuries. Delayed diagnosis of ascociated injuries often have less optimal result and sometimes can be fatal. This study aims to describe the incidence and associated injuries in patients with femoral shaft fracture at DR. M. Djamil Padang hospital in January 2016 – December 2020. This type of research is descriptive. The number of samples in this study is 34 adult patients with femoral shaft fracture at DR. M. Djamil Padang hospital in January 2016 – December 2020. The sampling method in this study is simple random sampling. The instrument of this study uses secondary data that obtained from medical records of patients with femoral shaft fracture at DR. M. Djamil Padang hospital in January 2016 – December 2020. In this study, the highest incidence of femoral shaft fracture was occurred in 2017 as much as 29.41%, the most age group that had femoral shaft fractures was the early adult age group (18-40 years) as many as 58.8%, male were the most femoral shaft fracture patients as much as 55.9%, the most anatomical classification in femoral shaft fracture patients was the midshaft as much as 67.6%, the most classification of exposure with external environment in femoral shaft fracture patients was closed fracture as much as 82.4%, the most mechanism of the injury in patients with femoral shaft fracture was motorbike accident as much as 58.8%, most patients with femoral shaft fracture had ascociated injury as much as 61.8%, the most therapy given to patients with femoral shaft fracture was plate osteosynthesis as much as 91.2%, and the shortest length of stay happened to isolated femoral shaft fracture patients for 4 days with the average length of the treatment for 10,85 days.
