Abstract
RAIHAN PRANANDA 1710815001 Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Andalas University, Padang. Thesis Title: Society's View of Masculine Women (Study : 4 Masculine Women in Nagari Supayang, Salimpaung District, Tanah Datar Regency. Supervisor I Dra. Dwiyanti Hanandini, M.Sc. This study discusses the community's view of masculine women in Nagari Supayang, Salimpaung District, Tanah Datar Regency and the background of the formation of masculine characters in women. In social life, there are many social norms that must be obeyed by members of the community who live in that environment. However, masculine women refuse to comply with social norms or customary norms that apply to women, by behaving and looking like men. Not infrequently they get a nagatife view of their deviant behavior. This research uses labeling theory which was pioneered by Edwin M. Lemert. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with data collection techniques of observation and in-depth interviews. In determining the informants, the researcher used purposive sampling technique. This study aims to describe the public's view of masculine women and the background of the formation of masculine characters. The results of this study indicate that the public's view of masculine women in Nagari Supayang considers that masculine women are not in accordance with the prevailing customary norms that women should not look like men, especially in Nagari Supayang, but some people think that there are some masculine women who have succeeded in eliminating them. their nagatife image by often helping the community and helping other traditional events. While the background for the formation of masculine characters is generally masculine women have been from childhood or from birth to look masculine because of parental upbringing, environmental factors and others. Keywords: Masculinity, Deviant Behavior
